Ted Haggard
Ted and Gayle Haggard have five children. They have lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado since 1985 where they planted New Life Church in the basement of their home. During their time serving as pastors, the church grew to 14,000 members. In addition to serving as the pastors of New Life church, Ted served as the president of the National Association of Evangelicals for four years, which grew from 22.5 million members to 30 million members during his time of service. In addition, Ted founded the Association of Life Giving Churches, a network of several hundred churches, and worldprayerteam.org, which was the world's largest internet based prayer site.
In November of 2006, moral failure caused Ted to resign from all of his leadership positions. Gayle and Ted, along with three of their children moved temporarily to Phoenix, Arizona where they joined Tommy Barnett's church for a time of healing and restoration. While there, the church Overseers and the church Restoration team oversaw his activities. He was released from their oversight in January of 2008 which gave them the freedom to move back home to Colorado Springs, which they did 6 months later, and to minister in churches again, which they started doing again 11 months later. Because Ted and Gayle had agreed to have HBO release the documentary, "The Trials of Ted Haggard," and do a series of repentance interviews on Oprah, Larry King, Good Morning America and the CBS Morning Show in January of 2009, New Life Church released the Haggards from their severance agreement just prior to those engagements. That release gave them the freedom to begin ministering in Colorado Springs as well. The HBO documentary and the accompanying interviews launched the Haggards into public ministry again. Since that time, they have been speaking publicly and writing.
